Train Sim World 6: Great Western Express Remastered Officially Released

Train Sim World

Dovetail Games and third-party developer Grump Dog Games have officially launched Train Sim World 6: Great Western Express Remastered, bringing one of the series’ most iconic routes up to modern simulation standards. The remastered version went live on February 6, 2026 across all major platforms supported by Train Sim World 6, including PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

A Fresh Take on a Classic Route

Great Western Express was Train Sim World’s first UK route and has now received a comprehensive overhaul. According to official update notes and release announcements, the remaster introduces significantly improved scenery, updated ground materials, and modern visual effects like the latest volumetric skies. Key railway locations — including Southall depot and the Paddington mail platform — have been rebuilt to better reflect real-world detail.

A brand-new 2017-era timetable has been included, offering players more than 1300 playable services when layered with compatible add-ons. The remaster also enhances audio with refreshed soundscapes and includes audible passenger announcements to deepen immersion.

Upgraded Rolling Stock & Features

Alongside environmental improvements, locomotives on the route — such as the BR Class 43 High-Speed Train (HST) and the BR Class 166 Networker Turbo — receive upgrades including improved wheel motion blur, updated sound design, and new interaction features. Notably, the HST adds a “guard mode” and exterior effects, while the Class 166 can now be driven in both two-car and three-car formations.

Layering from additional route content also brings in AI traffic from other services, such as the London Underground lines and Heathrow Connect, making the remastered experience busier and more dynamic.

Community & Event Support

The remaster’s release coincided with Dovetail Games’ Festival of Rail event, a week of community-focused reveals and showcases for Train Sim World players. Alongside Great Western Express Remastered, fans were teased with forthcoming remasters of other routes like Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen and East Coastway.

Players who owned the original Great Western Express add-on and are running Train Sim World 6 received the remaster as a free update, while it’s also available as part of new content bundles across digital storefronts.

Just a gamer who loves good games and good vibes. Here to play, learn, and share the journey one level at a time.
