Vultures – Scavengers of Death Releases Steam Demo, Blending Retro Horror With Turn-Based Tactics

Indie developer Team Vultures and publisher Firesquid Games have officially launched the Steam demo for Vultures – Scavengers of Death, a survival horror title that combines classic 90s-inspired atmosphere with tactical turn-based combat.

The demo is available now on Steam and offers players their first hands-on look at the game’s tense exploration, strategic combat systems, and retro aesthetic rooted in the golden era of survival horror.

Tactical Horror in a Fallen Metropolis

Set in the devastated city of Salento Valley, Vultures – Scavengers of Death casts players as operatives of the VULTURES mercenary unit. Their mission: scavenge the ruins of a biohazard-stricken metropolis in search of materials and information that could lead to a cure for the infection plaguing the world.

Rather than relying purely on action, the game emphasizes preparation and strategy. Players control agents with distinct combat styles and customizable loadouts before deploying into missions. Once inside hostile territory, every encounter becomes a decision point.

Avoiding combat is often a viable option. Stealth can conserve valuable resources, but when confrontation becomes unavoidable, the game shifts into deliberate turn-based battles. Players can target specific body parts, disable enemies to slow their advance, and carefully manage positioning to survive increasingly dangerous threats.

What’s Included in the Demo

The Steam demo features the game’s opening mission, set inside a deserted Police Station. Players take control of Leopoldo, one of the VULTURES operatives, and gain access to three weapons during the mission: a combat knife, pistol, and shotgun.

The average playtime for first-time players is approximately 45 minutes, offering a substantial introduction to the game’s mechanics and tone.

In the demo scenario, Leopoldo investigates the last known location of Thiago Schultz, a scientist affiliated with the shadowy Eugenesys Corporation. Schultz disappeared just one day before the outbreak, and uncovering evidence within the station may provide the first real clues about what triggered the catastrophe.

Classic Survival Horror Roots

Inspired by foundational franchises like Resident Evil, Vultures – Scavengers of Death embraces a retro PS1-style aesthetic, complete with moody environments and tension-heavy pacing. The game leans into isolation and limited resources, reinforcing the constant sense of vulnerability that defined early survival horror.

Salento Valley, once a thriving city, now serves as a haunting battleground filled with grotesque mutants and bio-engineered abominations. Exploration is key, as players gather notes, relics, and tools that piece together the broader mystery while unlocking new paths and combat options.

The Team Behind the Game

Vultures – Scavengers of Death is developed by Mateo and Giovanni of Team Vultures, longtime collaborators known for experimental mechanics and distinctive retro-inspired design. Publisher Firesquid Games specializes in strategy-focused titles that modernize classic genres while supporting creative independence.

The Steam demo for Vultures – Scavengers of Death is available now, offering horror fans a chance to experience its unique mix of tactical combat and old-school survival tension ahead of the game’s full release.
