Clash of the Kingdoms Launches in Early Access on Steam, First Playtest Now Live

Independent studio New Horizons has officially launched its turn-based strategy title Clash of the Kingdoms in Early Access on Steam, inviting players to jump in and take part in the game’s first public playtest.

Released on February 7, 2026, Clash of the Kingdoms is a fast-paced tactical strategy game built around compact, high-stakes battles where every move matters. Players command armies of distinct units on a 7×7 grid, aiming to outmaneuver opponents by eliminating enemy forces or capturing their base.

Tactical Strategy in Short, Intense Matches

At its core, Clash of the Kingdoms focuses on deliberate decision-making and tight battlefield control. Matches average 5–10 minutes, making the game easy to jump into while still offering enough depth for competitive tactical play.

Players can test their skills across multiple modes, including:

  • Battles against AI opponents
  • Local play
  • Online multiplayer via Steam

The streamlined match length makes it ideal for both quick sessions and extended tactical duels.

What Early Access Offers

The Early Access release is designed to give players hands-on experience with the game’s foundation while allowing the developers to refine it with community input. During this phase, players can:

  • Learn and experiment with the core combat system
  • Test key tactical mechanics
  • Play in multiple modes, including online multiplayer
  • Share feedback to help shape the game’s future

According to New Horizons, community involvement is a key part of development:

“We are creating Clash of the Kingdoms as a fast yet deep tactical game where strategic thinking truly matters. This playtest is the first step, where we want to see player feedback and suggestions. We want to build our game together with the players.”

The developers have outlined several features planned for the full version of Clash of the Kingdoms, including:

  • Expanded visual presentation
